Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration project website
Fair Research Data for Cultural Change
The Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) promotes the qualitative enrichment of research data using metadata - and implements this approach for the entire Helmholtz community. HMC develops and implements novel concepts and technologies for sustainable handling of research data through high-quality metadata. Its main goal is to make the depth and breadth of research data produced by Helmholtz centers discoverable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) for the entire scientific community. Our job at the start of the research project was to create the extensive website.
Complex navigation
The content-rich website has a very complex, up to four-level, navigation. The individual navigation strands vary in depth, so we developed a combination of classic dropdown menus and optional mega menus. Within these sub-levels, an additional level can be displayed via accordions.
Multi-tenancy microsites
The individual research groups (hubs) each have their own microsites to communicate specific content, messages and events. For better orientation, each hub is assigned a matching color from the Helmholtz Group's color system.
Individual CMS
The administration of all content is done via an individual content management system based on our open source package litstack. Separate accesses with separate permissions are available for the research groups.
3D key visual
From the existing key visual of the research project, we developed a 3D animation as a visual lead on the homepage. To do this, we used the visual programming environment Cables.gl, which is based on WebGL.
GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel
The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel is a renowned research institution specializing in the study of the oceans and their role in the global climate system. The center conducts innovative research in the fields of oceanography, marine biology, geosciences and climate research. Through close collaboration between scientists from different disciplines, important knowledge about the oceans is gained here in order to better understand the effects of climate change and to develop sustainable solutions for the protection of marine ecosystems.
Hermann von Helmholtz Association
The Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres is the largest German organization for the promotion and funding of science. With almost 44,000 employees, it is one of the world's largest scientific research organizations. Its aim is to research and solve complex scientific and social challenges, including issues relating to energy, health, the environment, climate and technology. The association is committed to promoting science and innovation in Germany and helps to strengthen the national research landscape.
